Sopot: Stronghold – Archaeological Heritage Park

Sopot, the city located just behind Gdansk border, is known mostly as holiday resort and “the clubbing place”. But, it holds some less known places and this small stronghold (polish: Grodzisko) is a great example.

As written on the website:

The term “archaeological settlement reconstruktion” means remains of a fortified settlement (gord). It occurs in a form of a round or rectangular elevation. The term “hillfort” is also used to indicate a large defensive settlement (gord).

The place is located in nice, green forest, quite near to the beach and Monte Cassino – the main street of Sopot. At first you go to an exhibition and education pavilon, where you can read read about the history of local residents and see some items from these times.

The stronghold itself is rather little, the visit won’t be very long. Unless you choose to visit during one of many historical events!
